The day South Africa fell in love with The Music man Cliff Richard

Cliff Richard was only 17 years old when he burst on the POP music scene with his excellent voice, Fred Astairre Dance Moves and dashing good looks.  He was every girl's dream date and every mother's nightmare. Mothers actually warned their teenage girls against this hip swinging youngster.

But hey, the girls didn't listen and kept the screams going.

With his first hit Move it  he became the Elvis Presley of Britain.  He famously give credit to Elvis on almost all his live shows: "If there had been no Elvis Presley, there could have been no Cliff Richard".

South Africa fell head over hills in love with Cliff and it climaxed with his tour to our country way back in 1963 (some say it was 1961). Cliff recalled his memory of this day when he talked to KFM 94.5 in South Africa (1995): "Every now and then I watch the tape again it is one of the highlights of my career".

More than 12,000 South Africans of every race were at Malan Airport, Cape town screaming and waving WELCOME CLIFF flags. Police said it was one of the biggest crowds they had ever seen. Several people were crushed as fans crowded

10 deep along the barrier to see him enter his car and drive off. About 3,500 cars jammed the airport groups.

(Can you blame us?)

Quote: "If ever it was Cliff Richard's intention to barn-storm South Africa with his personality and charm, and establishes show-business history, then he has succeeded as he never could have dreamed!".

South Africa's  love affair with Cliff is still going strong after all these years and we're looking forward to many more years of Cliff Richard Magic.

Forget the Peter Pan of Pop

Cliff Richard is The Music Man.

I met Cliff when I was barely 12 years old. Well, okay I heard him on the radio. The song was "When two worlds drift apart" and I was about to enter the difficult teen years. Throughout my teen years Cliff Richard were an inspiration to me. His clean living lifestyle and my mother's positive influence kept me from going bananas. I looked up to him - he was and still is my ultimate IDOL.

I have now been a Cliff Richard fan for 30 years. I can walk into any music store and buy any Cliff CD without even listening to it first.  Cliff's music are a remedy every day and in 1995 I had the opportunity to see him performing live in South Africa and me and Deidre my daughter of 16 years will once again be able to see the Music Man live. What a privilege!

I do still have the dream to meet Cliff in person and to attend a Cliff concert at Wembley. (I was mesmerized at his video of The Event)

Cliff is still from the old school and his love for Jesus and not bending under the pressures of this world make him:

A Man to GOD's heart!

I don't care what anyone think about him but to stay strong through almost 50 years of show business should earn him a lot of respect.
