TOWN 7 MARCH 2007 review by Amanda du Plessis
We
(Me and my daughter Deidre 16) arrived at Kirstenbosch at
10:30 in the morning and there were already people in the
cue. We all bonded very easily and had a fun time waiting
for the show to start at 20:30. We even met fans fr that
came all the way down from the UK.
We were about 20 fans at first up until about 16:00
when the crowd started arriving. The gates opened 18:30 and
Deidre sprung into action to get front row seats while I
carried the picnic basket, blankets etc.
When
we were inside with the crowd of 5000 Deidre, Myself and a
couple of our friends got up and started the cheer leading.
We decided on We will Rock you only we shouted We want
Cliff. That was great fun and then 5 minutes before Cliff
came on stage we got up again and shouted Cliff, Cliff,
Cliff and worked the crowd into a frenzy. Cliff
entered the stage with his guitar and started Summer Holiday
but STOPPED in amuzement to all the shouting and screaming.
He couldn’t believe his eyes. He
re started and believe me it was like in the Beatles days we
kept the screams going and he kept on performing.
Deidre
held up her poster that said:
I skipped school for you. He smiled and acknowledged
the poster. At first he wore an orange shirt and we could
actually see the sweat on his shirt. I have never been so
close to the man! Absolutely magical!
We
had a security guard from hell whom we called Hitler. He
kept telling us to sit down because the people in the back
can’t see. How can I sit down when this man is Rocking and
Rolling in front of me? I got so fed up and after Hitler
told me once again to sit down I turned to him and said: Oh
please go sleep! It
came out very loud and I saw that Cliff had a puzzled looked
on his face. (Hitler was out of sight from Cliff) After the
show I was amuzed to find meat balls all around me!)
I
held up a poster that said: It takes 2 Baby and when Cliff
and Dawn sang Reunited they actually re-did the Cilla Black
thing where Cilla touched his Butt in Castles in the Air.
The evening was over far to quickly. Sitting in the sun the
whole day was forgotten as Deidre and returned to our
Guesthouse.
